The risk

Meraki's cloud-first management platform is one of its greatest strengths. Changes can be deployed across an entire estate in seconds, allowing administrators to manage hundreds of networks from a single dashboard.

However, that same capability also introduces significant operational risk. A single configuration error can have immediate and widespread consequences:

• a firewall rule modified incorrectly
• an SSID deleted during routine housekeeping
• a VLAN assigned to the wrong switch port
• an incorrect DHCP setting

Even more concerning is the use of Configuration Templates. While templates provide excellent consistency across multiple sites, an incorrect change to a template can be propagated to every bound network almost instantly, affecting dozens or even hundreds of locations. Meraki provides comprehensive audit logs showing who made a change, when it was made, and what was changed. What it does not provide is an easy way to roll back to a previous known-good configuration.
